About the Credit Union
cPort Credit Union has a rich and storied past, starting in 1931 when we were founded as the Federal Employees Credit Union of Maine. At the time, we were only the third credit union in the state of Maine. Shortly after our original inception, we changed our name to Government Employees Credit Union of Maine, in order to better reflect our charter and membership requirements.
What started as an organization run out of our first manager's desk drawer grew to occupy the post office building at 125 Forest Avenue in Portland. Over time, our headquarters moved to 555 Forest Avenue in 1986, and ten years later moved to the current location at 50 Riverside Industrial Parkway. In the past 71 years we have had offices located in other towns as well. We currently have two other branches: at 22 Western Avenue in Augusta, and our newest location at 313 US Route 1 in Scarborough.
Previously our membership consisted solely of government employees, such as postal workers and military personnel. In 2004, we changed our name to cPort Credit Union, again to better reflect the recent change in our charter, which now allows us to offer membership to anyone who lives or works in one of five counties: Androscoggin, Cumberland, Kennebec, Sagadahoc and York.
Throughout the years, cPort has remained steadfast in keeping our members' satisfaction our #1 priority. We continue to benefit from our relationship with those that are a part of the public workforce and welcome members from all reaches of society.
