cPORT CREDIT UNION OFFERS IN-SCHOOL BANKING TO STUDENTS AT RIVERTON SCHOOL
PORTLAND, MAINE (October 23, 2006) - cPort Credit Union is pleased to announce it has recently partnered with Riverton School to provide banking services, to students who attend Riverton School. cPort Credit Union developed a special program just for children called the Earnie the Starfish Savings Club, which allows children age 12 and under to open a fee-free, interest-bearing account with an initial deposit of $5. Every Tuesday, representatives from cPort Credit Union will be available at an in-school branch located in the lobby at Riverton to open accounts for students, accept deposits and answer questions about money.
The Earnie the Starfish Savings Club program is designed to provide students with ongoing education about managing money, help them learn how to responsibly maintain a savings account and practice good savings habits. The program also engages children in saving with fun banking materials that kids can relate to, such as a savings register so they can watch their savings grow, fun coin savers, deposit slips they can fill out themselves, and prizes when they meet designated savings goals. Because the account will belong to the child they will be able to see for themselves how saving even a small amount of money each week can really add up.

We have long provided financial education programs at our branches to adults, but now we have the opportunity to also extend our financial education services to the students at Riverton.
