cPort Holiday Gift Idea Number 2 | Farm share or Food Co-Op Membership

Give the gift of food this holiday! By purchasing a CSA farm share, or “Community Supported Agriculture”, not only are you giving the gift of delicious, farm fresh food, but you’re also supporting an important local business… our farms! Maine now has over 180 farms and 6,900 farm shares. When Mainers purchase a farm share, they are making a commitment to the farm and in turn, farmers produce fresh, flavorful, and high quality foods. The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association has a great online tool that allows you to look up a CSA program near you!

The Portland Farmer’s Market is an incredible place to get fresh produce year round from hundreds of local farms and businesses. The Deering Oaks Farmer’s Market runs from late April to late November on Saturdays 7:00 am – 1:00 pm. The Winter Farmer’s Market runs December to late April, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm at 84 Cove Street.

The Farmer’s Market at Turnpike Mall in Augusta is the oldest farmer’s market in Augusta and open May through the end of October, 10:00 am -1:00 pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Also in Augusta, located on Kennebec River, is the Farmer’s Market at Mill Park running from May to November.
