Congratulations to the 326 5th and 6th graders from Farrington, Gilbert, Hussey, and Lincoln schools in Augusta who submitted essays this year for the cPort Scholarship Program!
After participating in workshops led by Bob Stuart of Maine College Circle, students wrote essays about their career aspirations and where they would attend college in order to pursue those careers. cPort’s Augusta branch staff reviewed all of the essays and selected recipients for $100 college scholarships. All program participants were recognized at cPort Scholarship Program ceremonies held at each school, where we also awarded the scholarships in front of students’ peers and families.
cPort University 2017 scholarship recipients also attended our April 25 visit to Thomas College. Students experienced Thomas’s campus first hand through a campus tour, a Student Life Q&A session, and lunch in the dining hall.
School Board Meeting
To conclude Augusta’s scholarship program this year, scholarship recipients will present excerpts of their essays to the Augusta Board of Education at the June 13 meeting.
We are so proud of all of this year’s cPort Scholarship Program participants! Special thanks to all of the teachers and principals at Farrington, Gilbert, Hussey, and Lincoln schools for their continued partnership. Since the program began in 2010, we have received over 2,000 essays by 5th and 6th graders about their college aspirations!
