Forty three students from Farrington, Lincoln, Gilbert, and Hussey Elementary Schools in Augusta received $100 college scholarships!

As part of the cPort Scholarship Program, 305 fifth and sixth grade students wrote essays about their career and higher education aspirations. cPort staff selected the 43 winning essays based on the effort, creativity, and passion students demonstrated in their writing. The scholarship recipients wrote about exploring careers such as snake charmers, veterinarians, translators, and oncologists. They plan to attend schools including Rhode Island School of Design, Bowdoin, and Harvard University.

All program participants were recognized at cPort Scholarship Program ceremonies held at each school, where we also awarded the scholarships in front of students’ peers and families.

Scholarship recipients from 2018 also attended our April 23 visit to the University of Maine at Farmington campus. Students experienced campus first hand through a campus tour, a Student Life Q&A session, and lunch in the dining hall.

We are so proud of all of this year’s cPort Scholarship Program participants! Special thanks to all of the teachers and principals at the Augusta elementary schools for their continued partnership. Since the program began in 2010, we have received nearly 2,600 essays by Augusta elementary students about their college aspirations!
