cPort’s VP of Human Resources Says Making Time for the Community is Always A Priority

We sat down to chat with cPort’s very own VP of HR, Alicia Roberts who has been a recently appointed board member to both the United Way of Greater Portland and the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute. When she is not responsible for recruiting top talent for cPort, Alicia is very active in the community.

Alicia says it is important for employees at any organization to be active in the community because it provides for a different perspective on things, and the experiences you learn can translate into your professional role as well.

In her role as VP of HR, Alicia says being involved with organizations outside of work is particularly important when it comes to looking at candidates for cPort, since one of our core values is Community. She says, “Candidates are usually the ones to bring up the aspect of community involvement first while interviewing, since they see how involved cPort is with supporting local organizations.”

Alicia’s start with both the UWGP and OSWLI began with cPort as the common denominator. In her previous role at cPort as the Executive Assistant she was responsible for coordinating the logistics for cPort’s giving efforts, which included supporting the UWGP. Alicia says she thinks there is a direct correlation to the work of UWGP and cPort, because both organizations aim to make sure there are adequate resources and support for all members of the community. The UWGP’s mission is to improve people’s lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community.

In her time volunteering as an advisor on for OSWLI, she has helped to raise the confidence and aspirations of high school girls by helping them develop the skills required to be leaders in their lives, families, careers, and communities. She feels that this work relates to the cPort Elementary School Scholarship, where we encourage kids to start thinking about their aspirations and higher education at a young age. As a new board member, Alicia hopes to use her experience as an advisor to help continue the mission and vison of the OSWLI.

So, you might be wondering what Alicia’s aspirations are serving not only one but two very prominent boards in the Maine community. Alicia says her goal is simple, “I want to use the knowledge and skills I have to better our community through the support of both of these organizations. My family has strong generational ties to Portland, and it is important to me to give back to the community where I grew up.”
