cPort Offering Shutdown Loans to Federal Employees

cPort Credit Union is offering shutdown loans to federal employees impacted by the government shutdown. Federal employees can apply to borrow up to one month’s income with two options for repayment. cPort will waive members’ interest if they choose to repay their loans within 30 days of the government re-opening. Same Day ACH Debits: What This Change Means for You

The federal reserve will make it possible for companies to start processing same-day ACH (Automated Clearing House) debits starting on September 15, 2017. This can reduce the lag time between when you make an electronic transaction and when the money clears your account. For example, if you pay your cable bill in the morning, the funds could be cleared from your account before 5:00 the same day. Retailers can also opt to convert checks to ACH, so this change could impact check transactions, as well.

Keeping a low balance can have a negative impact in the event a same day ACH debit overdraws your account and is returned or incurs a fee. Even with courtesy pay, keeping your account balance at a level that supports your spending is the best way to keep your account in the green.

cPort Credit Union to Provide Government Shutdown Assistance to Members

Update 7/5/17: cPort has concluded our shutdown assistance offering with the passing of the state budget and reopening of state government.

cPort Credit Union wishes to assist members who may be directly affected by the potential government shutdown. Affected members may skip a month’s payment on a loan without paying the $25 skip-a-pay fee. cPort is also offering an interest-free loan for the amount of one month’s missed pay.

Formerly the Government Employees Credit Union of Maine, cPort’s core membership includes federal employees and active duty members of the military. “We want to support our members during this time of uncertainty,” says cPort’s President and CEO Gene Ardito. “We hope that with these options, we can help our members and their families through what can be a very challenging situation.”

Proof of state employment is required to apply for shutdown assistance. State employees who open new memberships at cPort are eligible for assistance. To apply, members can call 1-800-464-0253 or stop into one of our branches.
