Protect Your Financial Information: Beware of Mobile Text Scams
In today’s digital world, your financial security is more important than ever. Recently, we have noticed a significant increase in the number of mobile text scams being circulated. These messages often attempt to deceive recipients by disguising as a financial institution. The message may ask you to verify a recent debit card transaction or might claim that your online banking credentials have been “compromised.” They may also ask for details including your online banking username and password or for a 4–6-digit Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) code.
Once they have this information, they could add your debit card to a digital payment platform like Apple Pay or Samsung Pay and then make unauthorized purchases. Worse, the fraudsters can gain access to your online banking account.
Your Protection
cPort will never text or contact you for your online banking password or debit card PIN. We will also never initiate contact with you and then ask for your MFA code. If you receive such a message, it’s a red flag that someone is trying to scam you.
Keep yourself safe. Remember these rules:
- Never give out personal information unless you initiate the contact.
- cPort will never call or text you and ask for your PIN, username or password.
- Do not open attachments or click on links if you did not request information.
- Never share a security verification code or eBanking password.
- Monitor the activity on your accounts regularly.
- Keep information on your accounts current for proper identification purposes.
