Pioneers in immigrant advocacy, the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (ILAP) is a non-profit organization committed to promoting the safety, security, and well-being of immigrants in Maine. Through a team of dedicated lawyers and advocates, they provide critical legal assistance, representation, education, and advocacy to immigrants and their families.

What is the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project’s Mission?

The Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project helps low-income immigrants improve their legal status and works for more just and humane laws and policies affecting immigrants.

At the core of ILAP’s mission is the belief that every individual deserves fair treatment and access to justice, irrespective of their immigration status. They strive to ensure that every individual is aware of their rights, have access to legal counsel, and are protected from exploitation and discrimination. By empowering immigrants with the knowledge and resources they need, ILAP plays a vital role in bridging the gap between legal complexities and immigrant communities.

Supporting Maine’s Immigrant Community

cPort Credit Union strives to play a vital role in providing financial literacy and crucial services to our local communities. We recognize immigrants’ unique challenges in navigating the financial expectations of becoming U.S. citizens due to language barriers, limited credit histories, or lack of familiarity with the American banking system. cPort works with organizations like ILAP to tailor services and resources focusing on improving and empowering individuals.

cPort visited ILAP to make our annual contribution, where the resources have assisted Maine’s immigrant community members to receive the legal help they need to thrive. At the same time, they advocate for a better and more equitable system.
